{"id":8713,"date":"2022-02-08T15:55:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T02:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinetics.co.nz\/?p=8713"},"modified":"2022-02-08T15:55:45","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T02:55:45","slug":"does-your-firm-have-the-right-relationship-with-your-it-provider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.kinetics.co.nz\/?p=8713","title":{"rendered":"Does your firm have the right relationship with your IT provider?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether your IT provider is your in-house IT team or a trusted business provider, <strong>do you have the right relationship with them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The right IT provider will ask &#8220;WHY&#8221; long before they ask &#8220;WHAT&#8221; and will be focused on <strong>proactively adding value to your practice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>They need to be focused on the right things<\/h2>\n<p>We realise that no one wants to buy IT &#8211; for most of us, it is a grudging investment that we make because we have a problem that we need to solve.\u00a0 The role of a good IT provider is to <strong>take your business problems and (hopefully) solve them<\/strong> in the best possible way.<\/p>\n<p>Being focused on the business problem and not the technical issue is an important difference and not as common as you might think.<\/p>\n<p>For example, for one client, they had a problem printing invoices right at a critical time.\u00a0\u00a0 While it was tempting to diagnose and fix the technical problem, the right answer was to immediately solve the business problem and get invoices flowing again &#8211; and that simply meant redirecting the finance team to go through another printer first.\u00a0 While it was a little inconvenient,\u00a0 the organisation could keep working and we had time to work out and solve the technical problem without the pressure that would have existed otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very basic example,\u00a0 it is one that illustrates how <strong>IT providers need to focus on the business\u00a0(or user)\u00a0problem first, not the machinery.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In other examples, we\u2019ve seen customers who have been proposed a new server, when what they needed, and was more effective, was a cloud solution \u2013 saving them thousands.\u00a0\u00a0 Too frequently, <strong>we\u2019ve seen customers being sold more storage when all they needed was a tidy up.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even worse,\u00a0 we&#8217;ve seen cases where IT re-sellers sold the same thing regardless of the question &#8211; is the IT person recommending that solution because they get a free\u00a0XBox\u00a0with it, or is it the right solution for you?\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Are they recommending a solution that fits your needs?<\/strong>\u00a0We saw one case of a small 14 user law firm that was recommended a $50,000 solution when hybrid cloud\u00a0was a better fit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Your IT provider should always ask &#8216;Why?&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Whether a small job\u00a0like \u201cdelete this user\u201d (Why? Because they\u2019ve gone on maternity leave &#8211; Oh perhaps we should just disable them then? ) to big jobs like \u201cmove me to the cloud!\u201d (Why?
