_module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><b>It might be our nearest neighbour, rather than us, but its still a good indicator of the trends that we&#8217;re also seeing in New Zealand.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We have to remember that much cyber-crime is still not reported.\u00a0 Whether it&#8217;s out of embarrassment or commercial sensitivity, we know that it is the trends that matter.\u00a0 We can be very clear that the kind of activities that are reported in Australia are also happening here.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyber.gov.au\/acsc\"><strong>Australian Cyber Security Centre<\/strong> (ACSC)<\/a> has released its annual report on key cyber security threats and trends for the 2020\u201321 (July to June).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The executive summary alone offers these highlights (or rather, lowlights) :<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There were <strong>67,500 <\/strong>reports of cybercrime.\u00a0 That is an increase of 13% on last year<\/li>\n<li>This equates to one report of a cyber <strong>attack every 8 minutes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Of these, there were 1,500 pandemic related scams reported, and 75% resulted in the loss of money or personal information<\/li>\n<li>A higher proportion of incidents categorised as \u2018substantial\u2019 in impact.<\/li>\n<li>Cybercrime services \u2013 such as <strong>ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS)<\/strong> \u2013 increasingly opens the market to growing numbers of malicious actors without significant technical expertise and without significant financial investment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ransomware<\/strong> has grown in profile and impact, and poses one of the most significant threats to Australian organisations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rapid exploitation of security vulnerabilities<\/strong>: State and criminal cyber actors continued to compromise large numbers of organisations by prosecuting publicly disclosed vulnerabilities at speed and scale<\/li>\n<li>Fraud and <strong>online shopping scams<\/strong> were the top reported crimes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.4&#8243;
