{"id":5108,"date":"2020-11-06T07:53:07","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T19:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kinetics.co.nz\/?p=5108"},"modified":"2020-11-06T07:53:07","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T19:53:07","slug":"40-years-of-the-ibm-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.kinetics.co.nz\/?p=5108","title":{"rendered":"40 years of the IBM PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For our working generation, desktop computers have been a mainstay of our work life.<\/p>\n<p>Its a very different world to the generation before us.\u00a0 In fact this month marks 40 years since IBM signed two young men from a new business called &#8216;Microsoft&#8217; to write the operating system &#8220;MS-DOS&#8221; for their new PC.\u00a0 November 6th 1980<\/p>\n<p>Many of us cut our teeth on such favourite software as WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3 and so forth, using floppy disks and even cutting out tabs to make them double sided.\u00a0 Disks were limited to 160 originally, then 320k.\u00a0 Even the humble 10Mb hard disk was yet to be seen!<\/p>\n<p>It is amazing how far we have come!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kinetics.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IBMPC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5110\" src=\"http:\/\/kinetics.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IBMPC-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For our working generation, desktop computers have been a mainstay of our work life.
