The company is focusing more on product development than pure science, with stricter rules and longer delays for publishing studies.\u00a0 We also noticed that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/07\/google-is-allegedly-paying-some-ai-staff-to-do-nothing-for-a-year-rather-than-join-rivals\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">DeepMind is paying some UK AI researchers<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"> to stay home for up to a year to prevent them from joining rivals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been movement in the creation of motion content, with tools like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/runwayml\/status\/1906718940610408745\">Runway<\/a> Gen-4<\/strong>. \u00a0The impact is predicted to be over 100,000 entertainment jobs in the U.S. alone could be disrupted by 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google\u2019s AI Mode<\/strong> now decodes images, combining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/624064\/google-ai-mode-overviews-search\">Gemini AI<\/a> with Lens image recognition.\u00a0 The tool can understand full scenes and offer detailed responses with useful links.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI is considering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/openai-discussed-buying-jony-ive-sam-altmans-ai-device-startup\">buying <strong>io Products<\/strong><\/a>, an AI hardware startup led by Jony Ive, for over $500 million.\u00a0 Jony Ive is the designer behind the iPhone. \u00a0The new AI-powered device being developed by Ive and OpenAI&#8217;s CEO Sam Altman is still under wraps and not yet defined.\u00a0 They are also considering \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/help.openai.com\/en\/articles\/10910291-api-organization-verification\">Verified Organization<\/a>\u201d which requires ID checks for some organisations to access new AI models. The move aims to reduce misuse and protect the platform, with a focus on safety and fair use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OpenAI<\/strong> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cg4114271x2o\">suing Elon Musk<\/a>, accusing them of trying to interfere with the company&#8217;s progress.\u00a0 Musk argues that OpenAI has moved away from its original non-profit mission.\u00a0 A trial is set for March 2026. In the meantime, OpenAI has been incredibly busy lately:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open AI is developing a potential competitor to Musk\u2019s X. They have been reported to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/openai\/648130\/openai-social-network-x-competitor\">building a social platform<\/a> prototype focused on ChatGPT\u2019s image generation tools, potentially competing with Elon Musk\u2019s Grok and Meta\u2019s AI assistant.<\/li>\n<li>OpenAI has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/16\/openai-releases-most-advanced-ai-model-yet-o3-o4-mini-reasoning-images.html\">introduced two new models,<\/a> o3 and o4-mini, that can analyse and reason through images. The o3 model can interact with images by zooming, rotating, and pulling visual information for problem-solving, especially in maths, science, and code.
